JAMAICA: WHERE EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS IRIE

 

We just got back from our second trip to Jamaica - you can read about our first trip here. We love it there!

Jamaica is one of the top Caribbean destinations for sun seekers each year. The turquoise-green water and white sandy beaches are worth a trip for sure, but the natural beauty of the island is embodied in the charm and charisma of the people!

 

I said it before, Jamaican people have music and rhythm in their blood and transcendent happiness in their souls. I'm not referring to a simple smile on their face here. They bounce with an air of joy in each step. They will bruk it down (dance) whenever the opportunity arises. And, they greet each other with the same smile and grace as they would strangers on the beach.

Jamaicans are genuinely positive people and happy to live the island life.

They say things like, "Life is good mon. Respect."

"The sun is shining," said a local man looking up at the clear blue sky. "You can't be anything BUT happy when the sun is shining."

They don't let things worry them. "Things happen mon," said my girl Natoya when asked if Jamaican people ever get down. "What's the sense in worrying about it."

Everything in Jamaica is always irie (great/excellent). They seem happy to have what they have. I'm sure they long for more, like most people, but they seem happy enough with what they have at the moment. In the moment.

A happy soul is part of who they are. It's in them. A characteristic. A way of life. Something you can not spoon feed.
