ASHLEY + DEVIN | {wedding} | august 2012
Thursday, August 16, 2012
They met in university. Between the pages of their math and science textbooks, Ashley and Devin fell in love. After graduation, they moved to Houston, Texas to pursue their dream of being engineers. For their dream wedding, Ashley and Devin travelled back home to Newfoundland. They chose to get married in Ashley's hometown of Tilting on the north east tip of Fogo Island.
Besides the beautiful scenery, a myriad of fishing stages at every turn and rugged Newfoundland coastline, there is one other aspect of Ashley and Devin's wedding in Tilting that stands out. The people. They patiently waited to congratulate the newlyweds outside the church. Laughed, cried, and sang tradition newfoundland songs during the reception dinner. They danced well into the night - I've never seen so many people on one dance floor Doin' the Newfie Stomp. Weddings are a celebration of love and the union of two families. Seeing so many people travel from near and far to celebrate with Ashley and Devin was heartwarming...totally worth the 5 hour wait for the ferry *wink*
There is one other highlight I have to mention. In years gone by, it was tradition to salute the Bride and Groom by firing guns in the air outside the church. Over the years, this tradition had been replaced with the honking of vehicle horns. Ashley and Devin had both. Local residents of Tilting (and a few tourists) lined the streets and congratulated the newlyweds with a wave as they drove through the town. A few local men fired their guns in the air. It was awesome to watch.
Ashley and Devin, thank you for inviting me to Fogo Island and welcoming me into your lives for just one day. I had the most amazing time.

A gift from mom...
...which Ashley kept close to her heart as she walked down the aisle.

Absolutely first class work Emma as always - The bride and groom should be very proud of the way you have captured their special day in the true glory of Newfoundland.
Excellent.
